
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has approved the appointment of Ekiti State Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr Julius Bamidele Bamise, the Chief Registrar of the State High Court, Mrs Olanike Caroline Adegoke and three others as new Judges for Ekiti State High Court, as part of efforts to fortify the judiciary in the State.
The three others are Julius Ajibare, Stephen Rotimi Akinyede, and Adefunke Helen Anoma.
The Council’s Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, who disclosed this said the decision was part of the outcomes of the 110th meeting of the Council held on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.
Babalola-Ogedengbe said the appointments of the five judicial officers was part of the Council’s approval of 27 candidates for State High Court judgeships across seven states, following a rigorous screening process that included public complaints consideration and interviews conducted by a seven-member Interview Committee, in line with the 2023 Revised NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the Appointment of Judicial Officers.
The six other affected States are Borno, Plateau, Niger, Delta, Benue, and Taraba.
The Council, according to her, equally recommended the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, Justice Joseph Kayode Oyewole, for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, alongside 35 other candidates for various judicial offices nationwide.
