The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Kemi Nandap, has called on market women, youths, and traditional rulers to aid in the surveillance and monitoring of Nigeria’s borders.
During her assessment tours in Katsina and Jigawa States, Nandap emphasized the critical role of these stakeholders in managing the nation’s borders, especially the vast unmanned areas.
The tour included visits to the Fago Patrol Base, Daura Forward Operational Base, Kongolam Border Control Post, and Magatari Control Post to inspect ongoing e-border projects and other facilities.
A statement from NIS Public Relations Officer Kenneth Udo highlighted Nandap’s meetings with former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk. Nandap urged traditional leaders, youth leaders, transport unions, and market women to support NIS efforts to safeguard the borders, warning of the dangers of transborder crimes like smuggling and human trafficking.
She called for continued collaboration with other security agencies, stressing that “a safe border is a safe nation.” Nandap also assured that the federal government is committed to improving the working conditions of border officers through enhanced logistics, accommodation, and continuous capacity building.
