NIPSS course 48 hails AFUSTA for driving economic diversification

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, has commended the management of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), Kebbi.
NIPSS specifically lauded the university for its initiatives on economic diversification of the country.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr Mustapha Mansur, stated this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
Mansur disclosed that the NIPSS Course 48 delegation, led by Nima Salman, made the commendation during a local tour of the university.
The PRO quoted the team leader as saying that the study tour was aimed at gaining practical insights into institutional frameworks, research initiatives and policy options relevant to entrepreneurship, economic diversification and national development.
Salman stressed the importance of developing sound policies that would harness Nigeria’s enormous creative, entrepreneurial and innovative potential, noting that the country’s economic transformation required diversification beyond traditional sources of revenue.
The team lead commended AFUSTA for its quality of presentations and the depth of intellectual engagement.
Salman expressed the delegation’s appreciation to the university management for the warm reception and described AFUSTA as a reliable centre of learning and academic excellence.

She further acknowledged the important role the university could play in advancing research, innovation, entrepreneurship and national development.
Earlier, the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isma’ila Mungadi, described the visit as an important opportunity for intellectual engagement, knowledge sharing and policy dialogue.
Mungadi explained that the institution bears the name of Sheikh Abdullahi ibn Fodio, a renowned Islamic scholar and intellectual, whose legacy continues to inspire scholarship, knowledge and service to humanity.
He noted that the theme of the interactive session, “Economic Diversification and National Development: Leveraging the Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Growth in Nigeria,” was timely and relevant to Nigeria’s quest for economic transformation.
He emphasised the critical role of universities in promoting economic diversification through research, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology transfer and human capital development.
The interactive session featured presentations on: “AFUSTA as a Catalyst for Economic Diversification, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development,” presented by Dr. Aminu Rabiu-Koko, Director, Academic Planning and “Onion Production in Kebbi: Challenges and Prospects,” presented by Prof. Adamu Muhammad, Department of Crop Science.
Other presentations included: “Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero,” presented by Dr. Muhammad Khakiko, University Librarian; and “AFUSTA’s Contribution to Economic Diversification through Science, Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” presented by Prof. Isma’ila Arzika-Mungadi, Acting Vice-Chancellor.
The presentations generated extensive discussions on the prospects of the orange economy, entrepreneurship, agriculture, information services, science and technology, innovation and other areas capable of contributing to employment generation, value addition and sustainable economic growth.
The engagement also provided a valuable platform for the exchange of ideas on how universities, government, industry and other stakeholders could collaborate to promote economic diversification and sustainable development.
