Nigerian govt signs bilateral devt cooperation with Germany, to benefit €101m financial, technical support

Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba on Tuesday signed, on behalf of the Government of Nigeria, a Bilateral Development Cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany.

Mr Lars Wilke represented the German government at the signing ceremony that was virtually conducted.

Agba said in a post on his verified Facbook page that the agreement, “which provides Nigeria €101,090,000 worth of financial, development and technical support, clearly aligns with this administration’s development priorities and the ongoing National Development Plan with the vision to stimulate industrialization and inclusive growth.”

He expressed gratitude to the Government of Germany for the development assistance and for its continuous support and interventions in Nigeria.

He said he was pleased to be present at the second day of the bilateral negotiations on Development Cooperation between the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Read him: “On behalf of the Government of Nigeria, I want to sincerely acknowledge and appreciate the continuous support and interventions of your Government in Nigeria as well as the cordial bilateral relations between the two countries.

“I am quite delighted to note that during the negotiations, the Government of Germany pledged the sum of over 100m Euros as the total German commitment for 2021/2022.

“Furthermore, it is pertinent to mention that these various interventions across sectors and the proposed spend align succinctly with this administration’s development priorities and the ongoing National Development Plan with the vision to catalyze the potential of the public, private and social sectors to stimulate industrialization and inclusive growth.”

The minister, however, said there wass need for a periodic joint field assessment of the interventions as this would assist in coordination and reporting.

“In addition to this, I have been informed that the Government of Germany has pledged one million COVID Vaccines to Nigeria as part of its assistance towards contending the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“These are surely uncertain times for Nigeria and the world, and we especially appreciate your generosity and the commitment you’ve expressed to our country with the donation.

“The Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) are working round the clock to continue to coordinate and oversee Nigeria’s multi-sectoral inter-governmental efforts to contain the spread of the Covid-19 disease with very commendable results,” the minister stated.

He said: “Your donation will surely help us further our ability to succeed during this unprecedented health crisis,” adding: “We look forward to a successful implementation of the various interventions between our country and the Federal Republic of Germany especially following the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, determination to take 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years.”

He expressed Nigeria’s sincere gratitude to the Government of Germany, GIZ, KFW and other officials who had, in one way or another, contributed to the successful holding of this negotiation.
