In a concerted effort to combat terrorism, insurgency, and various criminal activities across the nation, the Nigerian Army (NA) has continued to uphold its unwavering commitment to security and stability.
In a recent operation carried out on the 17th of October 2023, troops belonging to the 2 Battalion acted upon actionable intelligence and staged a meticulously executed ambush against insurgents in the Udowa general area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) in Kaduna State.
During this operation, three insurgents were neutralized in an intense firefight, while others managed to escape in disarray.
According to Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the fleeing insurgents left behind significant contraband, including a bandolier containing 111 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, two motorcycles, one set of high-frequency communication radio equipment, and two mobile phones.
Tragically, one soldier paid the ultimate price during the encounter, displaying the exceptional valor of the Nigerian Army.
On the same day, another operation unfolded as troops from the 1 Brigade engaged in a stop-and-search mission in Birnin Magaji LGA of Zamfara State.
Their vigilance paid off as they intercepted a suspected ammunition courier, later identified as a Bandit leader’s associate named Gishiri.
A preliminary investigation revealed the courier’s mission to deliver ammunition to the Bandit leader. The vigilant troops successfully apprehended the suspect and seized a bag containing 224 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, along with one mobile phone and the sum of four thousand naira (#4,000).
The suspect is in custody, undergoing further investigations.
In a separate operation within the North East theatre of operations, a significant breakthrough was achieved as a notorious Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) Commander, known as Bulama Bukar, voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 5 Brigade stationed in Gubio.
Bulama Bukar had been the commander of the BHT Camp Tapkin Chad located at Gilima village in Abadam LGA of Borno State.
Following his surrender, various items were recovered from him, including one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 44 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one magazine carrier jacket, one knife, one motorcycle, and the sum of twenty-three thousand, five hundred naira (#23,500.00).
The surrendered terrorist is currently undergoing profiling sessions.
The Nigerian Army remains dedicated to its mission of safeguarding the nation from threats and acts of terrorism, and these recent operations reflect its unyielding commitment to ensuring the security and safety of its citizens.
