Nigerian Army troops neutralize terrorists, rescue hostages in Borno, Zamfara

The Nigerian Army troops have neutralized six Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and rescued 48 hostages during counter-terrorism operations in Borno State.

The encounter occurred in Fulatari and Kago villages, Gwoza Local Government Area, where troops engaged in a fierce firefight, causing the terrorists to flee and abandon their captives.

The rescued hostages included one adult male, 20 adult females, and 27 children.

Additionally, troops recovered a Phantom Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), a 60mm mortar tube, a bandolier, three AK-47 rifle magazines, five rounds of 7.62mm x 51mm ammunition, and a bicycle.

In a separate, yet coordinated effort in Garin Gulukos and Sabil Huda, the Nigerian Army, along with the Civilian Joint Task Force and Hybrid Forces Group, dismantled terrorist logistics and seized several items including a Hilux vehicle, a Canter Troops Carrying Vehicle, two motorbikes, four bicycles, three solar panels, a power generator, an HP laser jet printer, and a mobile phone.

A serviceable borehole used by terrorists was also destroyed.

In Zamfara State, operations targeting terrorist enclaves in Abaniyawa, Dokau, Yar Dutsi, Kungurki, and Babba Saura areas led to an encounter in Kaura Namoda.

The terrorists fled during the firefight, abandoning an AK-47 rifle, a magazine with five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle.

Troops further dismantled the terrorists’ support structures, disrupting their operational capabilities.
