In a coordinated counter-terrorism operation on Saturday, May 18, 2024, Nigerian Army troops, supported by the Hybrid Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force, achieved a significant victory in Borno State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops ambushed terrorists around the Lawanti area, resulting in the neutralization of six insurgents.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops recovered a General-Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and 40 rounds of 7.62 x 51 mm belted ammunition.
In a separate operation, another ambush was conducted near Shetimari, Sabon-Gari, and the Amarwa Bulamari Exchange Point in Bama Local Government Area.
The troops engaged the terrorists, neutralizing one, while the others fled.
Efforts were ongoing to track the fleeing insurgents, according to the Nigerian Army.
It said: “The successful operations have bolstered troop morale, reinforcing their commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring regional security.
“The public is encouraged to continue cooperating with security forces to protect against threats and maintain safety.”
