In a decisive and meticulously planned military operation, Nigerian Army troops have neutralized the notorious terrorist leader Halilu Buzu, along with several of his fighters, in Mayanchi village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, which took place on Thursday, September 12, 2024, was a part of the army’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region and restore peace to affected communities.
According to military sources, the troops executed a deliberate and discreetly coordinated offensive targeting a well-known terrorist crossing point in Mayanchi. Upon encountering the army, Buzu and his fighters mounted a fierce resistance, engaging the troops in an intense firefight. However, the notorious group was eventually overwhelmed by the superior firepower and tactical precision of the valiant Nigerian soldiers. Among the seized items were two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) guns, three PKT machine guns, five AK-47 rifles, 479 rounds of PKT ammunition, 366 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 182 rounds of Machine Gun1 ammunition, one RPG bomb, 29 AK-47 magazines, and 30 motorcycles. Additionally, two Android phones and two Yeekee phones were recovered, likely to provide valuable intelligence for ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
In a further demonstration of their commitment to eradicating terrorist threats in the region, the troops destroyed the terrorists’ camp and are currently conducting additional exploitation operations in and beyond the engagement area. Military officials have emphasized the importance of such operations in disrupting the logistics and mobility of terrorist groups, which rely heavily on remote camps and crossing points for their activities.
The successful operation in Mayanchi underscores the Nigerian Army’s resolve to maintain pressure on terrorist elements across Zamfara State and other affected regions.
