Nigerian Army troops neutralise ESN terrorists, clear hideouts, recover arms, ammunition

The Nigerian Army’s forces have effectively eliminated a hideout belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) within the Ihiteukwa Community of Orsu Local Government Area in Imo State.
This successful operation, occurring on Saturday, March 2, 2024, involved a rigorous engagement resulting in the neutralization of one IPOB/ESN terrorist.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, reported that courageous troops, upon overpowering the adversaries, meticulously combed through the hideout, unearthing significant contraband.
Among the seized items were three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a Toyota Highlander SUV, a Hilux vehicle, as well as 8 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 6 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, and a locally crafted single barrel gun.
Additionally, proscribed Biafran uniforms, a solar panel, a CCTV camera, 10 mobile phones, batteries, a bundle of proscribed Biafran Currency, solar street lights, jungle hats, pairs of black boots, and assorted charms were recovered.
Simultaneously, in a separate operation conducted by our troops at a suspected IPOB/ESN crossing point in the Akawa Nneato general area of Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State, our forces engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight.
This resulted in the dispersal of the insurgents into nearby foliage. Subsequent exploration of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 Rifle loaded with 19 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 2 empty magazines, and an FN Rifle loaded with 4 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition.
Furthermore, troops deployed in the Kawara general area of Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State undertook operations to clear and dismantle terrorists’ camps.
During this mission, the troops confiscated 3 motorbikes, a PKT Gun link containing 246 rounds of 7.62mm by 39mm ammunition, woodland camouflage attire, Desert boots, 3 magazine carriers, and a Boafeng Radio.
Major General Nwachukwu affirmed that our troops maintain control over the region and continue to pursue further actions against the insurgents.
