Nigerian Army transfers 350 rescued civilians to Borno government

In a notable achievement by the Joint Task Force North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), the Headquarters Theatre Command has handed over 350 rescued civilians to the Borno State Government.

The handover ceremony took place at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

According to a statement by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the rescued civilians included 6 adult males, 135 females, and 209 children.

They were freed during clearance and offensive operations by OPHK troops in the Sambisa Forest.

Major General Kenneth Chigbu, Deputy Theatre Commander, praised the troops for their professionalism and acknowledged the support from international and local partners, as well as the Borno State Government.

He highlighted the milestone achieved under the leadership of Theatre Commander Major General Waidi Shaibu.

Hajjiya Y’arbauchi, Director of Social Welfare at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Borno State, received the civilians and commended the military’s efforts. She announced plans to take the rescued individuals to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps for profiling, medical checks, and skill acquisition training before reuniting them with their families.

This operation followed the recent handover of 44 rescued individuals by OPHK, underscoring the military’s ongoing commitment to protecting civilians and eradicating terrorism in the region.

The event was attended by senior officers from Headquarters Theatre Command and 7 Division, along with representatives from the Borno State Government.
