The Nigerian Army has addressed a viral video circulating on social media, which claims that soldiers of the 159 Battalion in Kanama, Geidam Local Government of Yobe State are being poorly fed.
In a statement Director, Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, ordered an investigation led by the Commander of Sector 2 Operation HADIN KAI to verify the allegations and address any potential issues.
He said the investigation showed that the video was not made by the soldiers of the 159 Battalion but by a police officer stationed with the troops in Geidam.
Contrary to the video’s claims, the investigation found that no personnel were served substandard meals.
Further investigation aims to uncover the motives behind the police officer’s actions.
Nwachukwu added that the Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to the welfare of its personnel, highlighting the efforts of the Chief of Army Staff in ensuring the well-being of soldiers, especially those on the frontlines.
Initiatives include increased Ration Cash Allowance, medical evacuation for wounded soldiers, payment of backlog Group Life Insurance Scheme, Affordable House Ownership Option for all Soldiers (AHOOAS), and other welfare schemes.
The Army reassured the public of its dedication to supporting its troops and thanked the public for their concern and cooperation in maintaining national peace and security.
