Nigerian Army investigates alleged killing of student in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Army has commenced a joint investigation on allegation that a jealous soldier killed his lover, one Miss Jennifer Ugadu, an undergraduate student of the Niger Delta University, Ammasoma.

In a statement, Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said Nigerian Army has taken the allegation seriously and
effort is ongoing to profile and ascertain the true identity of the suspect.

It was alleged that the student was shot in her apartment by the suspect who is now at large.

Onyema, who commiserated with the family of the deceased, said there is no place for such barbaric act in the Nigerian Army.

He added that as an institution that is accountable to the people, the Nigerian Army would ensure justice is served.

Onyema said being a professional and disciplined organisation, the Nigerian Army will continue to uphold and respect the fundamental human rights of citizens as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of Nigeria.

He assured members of the public that details of the investigation will be made public.

The Army spokesman reaffirmed a force with zero tolerance for any form of criminality, such allegation will not only be investigated, but the culprit will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
