Dr Onu also stated that Nigeria was working hard to ensure that the economy would no longer be dependent on commodities but on knowledge that was innovation driven.

This, he said, would enable the nation to tap into the vast resources God had endowed Nigeria by deploying Science, technology and innovation to convert those resources into the products and services that we needed in our homes, hospitals and schools.

The minister further stated that applying STI, would help the nation to strengthen the economy and would help in the fight against poverty.

In his words: “The President Muhammed Buhari is committed in making sure that we don’t have poor people in Nigeria in the future.”

The minister also said Nigeria was working very hard to achieve this feat that in the next 100 years, many Nigerians would be moved out of poverty.

Doing this, he said, would drastically reduce the level of poverty and would attain what China had achieved by eliminating poverty which was the ultimate goal of our nation.

He commended the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for their tremendous contribution to science and technology in the development of Human Society.

Earlier, the Ambassador, while noting Nigeria as a giant in Africa, commended Nigeria for its self-reliant effort.
