The Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Phillip Shaibu, has pledged reformation of sports and its development in the country, saying sports was the only thing devoid of sectional and selfish interests, which unites all Nigerians.

Shaibu made the assertion at the NIS in the M.K.O. National Stadium, Abuja, during the submission of a 10-year plan to him by the Engineer Musa Kida-led 32-man committee, that was inaugurated earlier in July, 2025 to create a more effective roadmap to administer sports, so that Nigeria could excel in all competitions and gains.

Comrade Shaibu, a sport enthusias who advanced sports development in Edo State, as deputy governor, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his timely transformation agenda of the sectors, particularly sports, remarking further that it was the most ideal way to turn around a nation, who must harness her abundant human and others resources for the huge benefit of the people.

“President Tinubu has a holistic approach to reshaping the narrative of our nation’s sports landscape by ensuring that the most capable individuals are entrusted with the processes necessary to revitalise the sporting ecosystem,” he said.

He stated that ” most of such reports do not meet the expectations, where there had not been proper follow-ups, mainly because those who initiated plans are not same who execute.”

Shaibu said further that in view of this and in line with the President’s vision of making Nigeria a hub for sports and tourism, he announced that Musa Kida would continue as the chairman of the advisory committee responsible for implementing the report’s recommendations.
