Nigeria commits to women entrepreneurs’ finance code (We-Fi)

In a landmark event held at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Head Office in Abuja on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, key financial stakeholders pledged their support for the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Code (We-Fi).

The declaration was made by prominent figures including CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, Deputy Governor of Operations at CBN, Ms. Emem Usoro, and MD/CEO of the Bank of Industry, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, among others.

Mr. Cardoso emphasized the significance of this commitment, stating, “This is not just a symbolic gesture but a meaningful step toward closing the gender financing gap and empowering women entrepreneurs to drive national development.”

He urged stakeholders across the financial sector to adopt the We-Fi Code, which aims to enhance financial inclusion for women entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

The World Bank Group, represented by Lead Country Economist Ms. Bertine Kamphuis, backed the initiative, pledging support in the drive to improve access to finance for female business owners.

This move signals Nigeria’s alignment with the global push to empower women entrepreneurs and strengthen their role in economic growth.
