Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Mrs. Affiniki Dauda, has lost her bid to return to the Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Dauda, the only female legislator in the House and representative of Gurara constituency, was defeated by a newcomer in the party’s primaries. Fifteen other lawmakers also failed to secure return tickets.
The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, was returned unopposed from his Magama constituency.
Dauda had recently seconded a motion moved by Senator Sani Musa to return Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago unopposed for a second term.
Following the primaries, all 27 APC candidates for Assembly seats are male, and no Christian candidate made the party’s ticket.
Those who secured tickets include: Abdulmalik Bala Yakubu (Katcha), Abubakar Suleiman Gomna (Bosso), Ahmed Mohammed (Edati), Alhassan Isah (Mashegu), Bello Bako (Rijau), Murtala Adamu Badaru (Suleja), Ndagi Zakari (Mokwa), Nasir Umar (Paikoro), Yahaya Abubakar Ahmadu (Gbako), Zubair Ismaila (Rafi), and Dogari Daje (Munya).
Committee chairman Alhaji Danlami Mohammed Abubakar announced the results at the party secretariat on Thursday evening.
