Niger abduction: Bandits demand N110m ransom for Tegina Islamiyya Children

The headmaster of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya School in Tegina town in Rafi Local Government of Niger State,

Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan, disclosed on Tuesday that the bandits who abducted children attending School had demanded N110 million ransom for their release.

He said the bandits made contact with the school on Monday to demand for the ransom.

Alhassan told reporters that the bandits claimed to have 156 children in their custody, adding that they threatened to kill them if the ransom was not paid.

Alhassan lamented that the State Government had insisted that it would not pay the ransom but would engage in negotiation with the bandits.

The parents of the children and the community, according to sundry reports had started soliciting funds for the release of their children.

Niger Deputy Governor, Ahmed Ketso, stated that the government would not pay ransom for the release of the children.

He said the government believed that negotiation would work like it did during the abduction of the Kagara boys.
