Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has emphasized the need for Nigerians traveling abroad to be vigilant to avoid adverse situations.
During a meeting with Rev. Dr. Israel Kristilere, CEO of Oasis of Faith Intercontinental Limited and President of the Christian Tourism Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CTPAN), Dabiri-Erewa reiterated this advisory.
Rev. Kristilere recounted his ordeal on April 30th, 2024, when he and 27 pilgrims faced maltreatment during a layover in Cairo en route to Israel.
Kristilere described being unjustly accused of sexual abuse by airport security, based on a complaint and a video he was not permitted to view.
Despite his refusal to sign an Arabic document, he documented the incident and was eventually released after intervention by the Desk Manager.
The 27 pilgrims refused to board without him, delaying their departure until 1 a.m. on May 1st.
NIDCOM, represented by Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, expressed regret over the incident and assured that the commission would bring Kristilere’s petition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt.
Dabiri-Erewa commended Kristilere for his resilience and securing support from the Christian Pilgrims Commission, encouraging him to submit relevant documents for further action.
NIDCOM reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the dignified treatment of Nigerians worldwide.
