An NGO, the Women’s Rights and Health Project (WRAHP), has ended a three-day state-level training for civil society actors in Lagos State.
The empowerment equipped community leaders, activists, journalists, and grassroots organisations with critical skills on physical safety, digital protection, safeguarding, legal compliance, and psychosocial wellbeing.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training, which started on Tuesday and ended on Thursday, held under the project – “Strengthening Collective Protection and Resilience of Civil Society Actors in Lagos and Edo States, Nigeria”.
NAN also reports that the initiative brought together participants from Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), Local Women’s Rights Organisations (LWROs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), activist groups, and the media to address increasing risks faced by civic actors, including digital threats, harassment, legal intimidation, and burnout.
Speaking at the closing session, Mrs Bose Ironsi, Executive Director, WRAHP, said that the programme was designed to strengthen resilience and ensure safer, more inclusive, and sustainable human rights work.
Ironsi said across the three days, participants received practical sessions on understanding civic space realities, risk assessment, threat mapping, physical security planning, conflict management, digital safety, secure communication, legal and regulatory compliance, safeguarding systems, reporting pathways, and stress management.

She said that the training also supported participants to develop individual and organisational action plans for continued protection after the workshop.
“Civil society actors are essential to democracy, accountability, and community development.
“Strengthening their safety and resilience is not optional, it is necessary for sustaining human rights work and protecting the voices of vulnerable communities,” she said.
Ironsi said that the Lagos training was part of a broader intervention that would also extend to Edo, creating stronger protection networks across both states and promoting collective approaches to safety and safeguarding.
Commenting, Mrs Precious Ebube, from CSO the space, said that the training was enlightening as she got to know more about safety online.
Another participant, Mr Jude Ejiogu from CBO, said that the three days were impactful especially the digital safety aspects.
Ejiogu said that he now had some knowledge about cyber security, online threats and other risks associated with online.
