Chief Allen Otobo has been sworn in as the new Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Olugbobiri Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, ending months of leadership vacuum caused by disputes.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the community town square, also produced an 12-member executive that will run the affairs of the oil-rich community for the next two years.
The election process had been stalled by disagreements that led to litigation and required the intervention of the Bayelsa State Government before normalcy was restored.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, the Paramount Ruler of Olugbo Kingdom, HRH King Clifford Mangiri, expressed relief at the resolution of the crisis.
The monarch, who earlier led journalists and security operatives on an inspection of properties damaged during the dispute, appealed to residents to bury the hatchet and rally behind the new leadership.
In his acceptance remarks, Chief Allen Otobo described the inauguration as “a new dawn” for Olugbobiri, thanking the state government and traditional institution for their roles in restoring peace.
He promised inclusive governance and rapid development. Also present at the event, Chief Paul Ajiki commended the state government for its timely intervention, expressing optimism that the new executive would build on the regained stability.
Representing the Commissioner for Community Development, Hon. Alfred Belemote, Dr. Fekosufa Amaebi praised the community for the peaceful conduct of the ceremony, saying it demonstrated alignment with the state government’s agenda of peace and cooperation.
With the new leadership now in place, residents and observers hope Olugbobiri can focus on development projects and harness opportunities from oil companies operating in the area.
