The National Emergency Management Agency has named 15 local government areas in Lagos and 19 in Ogun as moderate flood-risk zones for the current rainy season.
NEMA issued the alert Tuesday on its official X handle, urging residents in affected areas to take preventive measures.
“Is your LGA listed as a flood-risk zone? Take action early: clear drains, avoid floodwater, move from riverine areas and follow official alerts,” the agency said.
*Ogun State LGAs at risk*: Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ewekoro, Ifo, Ijebu East, Ijebu North, Ijebu North East, Ijebu Ode, Ikenne, Imeko Afon, Ipokia, Obafemi Owode, Odeda, Odogbolu, Remo North, Sagamu, Yewa North, Yewa South.
*Lagos State LGAs at risk*: Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland.
NEMA warned against living in riverine areas without adequate preparedness and urged residents to stay informed through official channels. It advised reporting emergencies via its toll-free hotline 0800CALLNEMA (0800 2255 6362).
The alert follows meteorological forecasts of increased rainfall across southern Nigeria, raising concerns for low-lying and poorly drained urban and semi-urban communities.
