• Arrests Cameroonian in Nigerian military uniform, recovers tons of illicit drugs in nationwide raids of drug joints
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is stepping up its operations to combat drug-related crimes ahead of the inauguration of new administrations across Nigeria on May 29.
Recently, NDLEA operatives intercepted a shipment of 32 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that were being transported to a bandit camp in Niger state.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect, Musa Muhammadu, who was caught with the explosives on May 22 along Wawa Road, Kainji, Niger state, to the military.
In another significant operation, NDLEA operatives at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, seized a consignment of 30.10kg of methamphetamine destined for London, UK.
Additionally, officers from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) within the Agency discovered a shipment containing 379 grams of the same illicit substance concealed in the false bottom of six black soap containers. The drugs were packed in a carton containing local hand fans and were en route to Cyprus in Europe. The seizure took place at a courier company in Lagos.
Further operations conducted by the NDLEA resulted in significant arrests and drug seizures. In Adamawa state, operatives on a stop and search patrol along the Michika-Bazza Road apprehended a Cameroonian national named Ndawai Emma Ngalou.
He was found in possession of a pair of Nigerian Army camouflage uniform bearing the name “Sunday U,” as well as two ATM cards belonging to individuals named Turaki Mohammed and Ekene Izuegunam.
In Bauchi state, two women, Bilkisu Yusuf (33) and Kauna Katsina (25), were arrested in Ningi town with 11,080 pills of tramadol.
Additionally, Uche Shadrach (22) was apprehended with 20,480 pills of the same pharmaceutical opioid along the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi state. Shadrach was traveling from Onitsha, Anambra state, to Minna, Niger state.
In Lagos, two suspects named Surajo Adamu and Muhammad Ali were arrested with 379,200 tablets of Diazepam in the Alimosho area.
Meanwhile, the MMIA Command of the Agency took custody of 22 cartons of Tramadol 225mg (weighing 1,144.30 kg) and 12 cartons of Tramadol 120mg (with a total weight of 320kg), amounting to a combined 2,317,400 pill.
These drugs were transferred to the Agency by the Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service.
In Delta state, NDLEA operatives, supported by personnel from the Nigerian Army, NSCDC, and the Police, raided the notorious Abbi town in Ndokwa West LGA.
The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects: Eunice Eneh (52), Animan Ifeoma (26), and Chuks Webema Dennis (35). A total of 343.9kg of cannabis was recovered from them.
Additionally, in Bayelsa, a wanted suspect named Ozoemena Egbochue (38) was apprehended at Swali market in Yenagoa on May 22, following the earlier arrest of his sales boy, Morgan Eredeowei, with 11,748 pills of tramadol and diazepam.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the professionalism and collaboration of the NDLEA officers and personnel across all Commands and urged them to sustain the offensive action even after the handover ceremonies on May 29.
