NDE trains 900 unemployed Osun youths on vocational skills

The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for its huge investment in job creation, poverty reduction and youths Empowerment, all aimed at creating a pool of self-employed and self-reliant citizens.

The NDE boss gave the commendation while speaking in Osogbo the Osun State Capital.

The NDE State Coordinator Mr Julius Fakunle spoke on his behalf at the orientation ceremony for 900 unemployed persons, who are new intake into NDE Basic and Advanced, National Open Apprenticeship Training Schemes ( NOAS).

According to him the training Schemes were designed to impart skills on the 600 new intakes of B-NOAS, on any vocational trade of their choice, while 300 A-NOAS participants are those who have attained a reasonable level of competence in their trades, but need skills upgrade, in such areas as ICT, Catering, Make up, Tie and Dye, Photography, Fashion Designing, Cake making, Welding, Plumbing, Barbing, among others, to enhance their marketability for self-employment and self-reliance.

The NDE DG noted with delight that the NDE interventions had, over the years, assisted the nation in reducing the scourge of unemployment among the teeming youths, women and people with special needs.

Mallam Fikpo, therefore, took the opportunity of the occasion to call on other categories of unemployed persons, who had passion for skills acquisition to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the NDE, to enhance their self esteem and to have a sustainable means of livelihood.

He congratulated the lucky participants on being selected among numerous applicants, while encouraging them to take the training seriously, and also strive to attain at least 85% record of attendance at the training outlets, so that they could be qualified for further NDE resettlement loan package.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of Vocational Skills Development, NDE, HQs Mallam Isa Abdul, represented by Mrs Dupeola Folarin (AD) Human Resource Management, enjoined the participants to be committed throughout the three months’ training so that they could benefit maximally.

The highlight of the occasion included presentation of lectures on workshop rules and regulations, safety precautions, usage of training materials, proper documentation and requirements for NDE resettlement loan, among others.
