The Nigeria Democratic Congress has rolled out the red carpet for two APC heavyweights, granting waivers to former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Age and ex-Delta Speaker Victor Ochei to run for Senate in 2027.

NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director confirmed the approvals Thursday in Abuja, days after both leaders defected from the APC.

Omo-Age will contest Delta Central. Ochei will battle for Delta North. Both men skipped NDC’s standard waiting period because of what the party called their “leadership experience, political influence and commitment to democratic governance.”

The party described the pair as political heavyweights whose defection strengthens its structure and electoral chances in Delta. “They possess the capacity and grassroots support required to provide effective representation,” the statement said.

NDC assured Omo-Age and Ochei of a “credible, inclusive and people-oriented platform” to pursue their ambitions. The party also reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and transparency as it builds toward 2027.

The waivers clear both men to enter NDC primaries without meeting usual membership timelines, setting up two high-stakes Senate races in Delta.
