NDC addresses Obi, Kwankwaso defection rumours:

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, moved Friday to cool speculation that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso are set to defect, saying talks are happening but nothing is confirmed.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary Hon. Abdulmumin Ohiare Abdulsalam said recent media reports were “over-sensational” and stressed his interview only discussed “potential scenarios,” not done deals.

“We do not object to engaging with the press on matters of political importance,” Abdulsalam said. “But reporting must reflect the context and the facts.”

The party says it runs an “open-door policy” and calls itself a “Noah’s Ark” for dissatisfied politicians from any party. Still, Abdulsalam insisted NDC isn’t hunting for defectors.

“Ab initio, we have been encouraging politicians to consider joining the NDC,” he said. “But we respect their right to make their own decisions.”

NDC confirmed it’s in discussions with figures across the spectrum, including APC members.

It also acknowledged wider opposition talks about a possible alliance before the 2027 election.

On Obi and Kwankwaso specifically, the party didn’t rule anything out. But it didn’t confirm anything either.
