NCC hails BPSR ranking as proof of telecom reforms yielding results

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, says its 3rd-place ranking in the 2026 Bureau of Public Service Reforms, BPSR, Self-Assessment Tool, SAT, validates ongoing efforts to improve transparency, accountability and service quality in the telecom sector.

Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, Abraham Oshadami, spoke on behalf of the Commission at the BPSR event.

–“This Recognition Acknowledges Our Reform Efforts”–

Oshadami, who represented NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the award was a testimony that the Commission’s reforms were yielding results.

“On behalf of all awardees, and second, on behalf of the Board, Management, and staff of the Nigerian Communications Commission, we thank the Bureau for these recognitions,” he said.

“For us at NCC, this recognition acknowledges our ongoing reform efforts and underscores the need to sustain them.

“For our telecommunications consumers, this recognition reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen service quality, transparency, and responsiveness across the sector,” he added.

He said the assessment outcome also reinforces the need to maintain standards that improve customer experience and build greater confidence in telecom services nationwide.

–Key Reforms Driving Transparency–

Maida restated the Commission’s commitment to using regulatory tools and innovative approaches to deliver measurable improvements in service quality and consumer protection.

He said the NCC has, over the past two years, introduced far-reaching reforms to promote transparency and accountability. These include:

1. National Coverage Map: Provides near real-time information on the performance and availability of operators’ networks across the country.
2. Quarterly Network Performance Reports: Offer detailed assessments of network performance nationwide.
3. Clearer Tariff Communication: Mobile Network Operators, MNOs, have been directed to simplify tariff information for easy consumer understanding.
4. Updated Corporate Governance Guidelines: Require stronger corporate accountability and improved operational performance.
5. Proactive Data Publication: Emphasis on publishing clear, comprehensive, and timely data on industry activities to keep the public informed and enhance accountability.

—BPSR Commends Top-Performing MDAs—

Director-General of BPSR, Mr Dasuki Arabi, commended all participating MDAs, especially the top performers, for their commitment to transparency, accountability, and open governance.

He said those values reflect consistency with established public service standards.
