The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Limited (Exchange) from MTN Nigeria Communications Limited (MTN) over the non-settlement of interconnect charges.
In a public notice, Reuben Muoka, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, disclosed that Exchange was duly informed of the disconnection request and granted an opportunity to present its case.
Following a comprehensive review, the Commission determined that Exchange failed to provide sufficient justification for its non-payment of the charges.
The NCC emphasized that, pursuant to Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 and the 2012 Guidelines for Disconnection Procedures, MTN would discontinue routing voice and data traffic through Exchange five days after the notice’s issuance.
He said that alternative channels for interconnection will be utilized during this period.
The disconnection, he stated, would remain effective until otherwise directed by the Commission.
