The Nigerian national grid has suffered another collapse, marking the second system failure in a week and leaving millions without electricity.

According to reports, power generation dropped to zero megawatts, with all 23 power plants connected to the grid shutting down.

This recent collapse occurred just days after the grid failed on January 23, 2026, causing widespread blackouts across the country.

Experts point to structural problems, inadequate infrastructure investment, and power decentralisation as key factors contributing to the frequent grid collapses.

■ Affected Areas: Nationwide, with all 11 electricity distribution companies impacted
■ Previous Collapse: January 23, 2026, with power generation dropping to 24 megawatts

The Nigerian government has assured citizens of efforts to stabilise the power grid, with the Minister of Power highlighting plans to implement a distributed power model to enhance local power generation and reduce reliance on the national grid. [Sundry media reports]
