National Defence College Medical Clinic Bulletin, “THE ADVISORS”, makes a debut

The maiden edition of the National Defence College (NDC) Medical Clinic Bulletin, “THE ADVISOR”, has been unveiled.

The College Medical Officer, Squadron Leader Moses Anyadike, who is also Secretary of the Editorial Board of the News Bulletin, presented the maiden edition to the NDC community.

“On behalf of the Editorial Board, I humbly and respectfully present to you this maiden edition of NDC Med Clinic Bulletin,” Anyadike said.

Giving an insight into the robust reports in the Bulletin, he said: “This maiden edition is garnished with activities of the clinics, medical outreach during the College @ 30 anniversary, to mention but a few.

“The icing on the cake was the delivery of 900 grammes beautiful female baby who’s alive and bouncing.”

He said that “this maiden edition of NDC Medical Clinic Bulletin includes a print copy for desk reference along with the e-bulletin version which could be easily accessed through the NDC library.

“The editorial board members on behalf of the the Commandant wish you all blissful Christmas Celebrations and prosperous New Year.”

Meanwhile, the Chief of Medical Services
Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Abuja, Air Cdre A.C. Ekpe, MSS, MBBS, FWACP, said in a goodwill message:
“It is my pleasure to associate with this noble initiative of publishing a health bulletin, “The Advisor” to inform and educate the National Defence College (NDC) community.

“It is an accepted fact that timely dissemination of health information helps in preventing, controlling and managing many diseases and other medical challenges.

“This is why the publication of this bulletin is germane. With the caliber of professionals in ‘The Advisor’s’ Editorial Board, I have no doubt that the bulletin is poised to provide information that would enhance the overall wellbeing of the NDC community and beyond.

“It is hoped that copies of the bulletin would be made available to the Service Headquarters and other offices.

“This could be a good corporate social responsibility project of the College.

“On this note, I wish to congratulate the Commandant of NDC and the Editorial Board of ‘The Advisor’ on the publication of this maiden edition of this vital health bulletin.”

Taking full adavantage of an opportunity to write “From the Desk of the College Medical Officer”, Anyadike further said: “It is with great joy I write to appreciate the Commandant National Defence College, Rear Admiral MM Bashir, for his approval of this maiden edition of the College Health Bulletin “The Advisor”.

“I also acknowledge the members of faculty and the entire National Defence College community. As part of its duties, the College Clinic has deemed it fit to keep the NDC Community abreast of current trends in optimal healthcare delivery for individuals which will ensure good health for everyone as it is a healthy people that make up a healthy working community.

“I hope that this health bulletin is apt, timely and auspicious serving as a means of health education and intervention for our College with respect to prevention of communicable diseases such as Monkey Pox, COVID-19, as well as non-communicable diseases such as chronic Low Back Pain which is presently affecting the work force.

“Pregnant women are not left out in this must read tabloid since gestational diabetes Mellitus is increasing in incidence.

“It is pertinent to mention that the College Medical Centre has been upgraded to a Secondary health facility with thirteen fully functioning clinical departments, available to render accessible services to our esteemed College community and visitors.

“The vision of the clinic administration is to provide healthcare delivery akin to a one-stop facility, where medicare is feasible, available, accessible, affordable and sustainable.

“Having this in view, the NDC clinic now boasts of a new radiology suite, electromedical patient care record system , Nineteen attending medical consultants (Pulmonologist, Neuropsychiatrist, Neurourgeon, Nephrologist, Cardioloigst, Endocrinologist, Dermatologist, Urologist, ENT Surgeon, Radiologist, Orthopedic Surgeon, Plastic Surgeon, Clinical oncologist, Paediatric surgeon, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dental Surgeon , Clinical Nutritionist, Ophthalmologist, and Clinical Psychologist) and upgraded theatre suites in the College and Ushafa Camp respectively.

“This has been of Immense benefit as the clinic has carried out several surgical procedures including myomectomies (fibroid), caesarean sections, corrective orthopedic surgeries, ventriculoperitoneal shunts for hydrocephalus, antenatal sessions, complicated deliveries, fertility clinics, thyroidectomies, herniorrhaphies, management of burns with improved patients care amongst others.

“I am privileged to speak words of appreciation to our Commandant for his inestimable support and fatherly role in the success of the NDC 30th Anniversary Medical Outreach held in July 2022 in Ushafa village Bwari Abuja.

“Furthermore, he graciously approved the upgrade of two clinic wards to VVIP suites, undoubtedly proving his interest in ensuring the College Clinic runs smoothly, providing a facility where personnel and civilian staff, get the utmost care possible which they deserve.”
