Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental and one of the leading national chairmanship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator George Akume, has withdrawn from the race.
Akume also congratulated a former Nasarawa State Governor and serving senator, Abdullahi Adamu on his endorsement as the consensus candidate for the position of national chair.
Akume’s notice of withdrawal from the race and congratulatory message to Adamu were contained in press statement issued by the Chairman, Contact Committee of his Campaign Orgamisation, Simon Shango.

“PRESS STATEMENT
“SENATOR GEORGE AKUME WITHDRAWS FROM THE NATIONAL CHAIRMANSHIP CONTEST.
“This is to Inform our teeming supporters and other members of the ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) nationwide, that Senator George Akume, Honorable Minister of Special Duties and Inter- Governmental Affairs, after due consultations with critical Stakeholders, has formally withdrawn from the National Chairmanship contest.
“This action is informed by the need to reposition our party in order to hold a rancor-free National Convention which will usher in harmonious primaries for various positions leading to the 2023 general elections.
“On this note, Senator George Akume heartily congratulates Senator Abdullahi Adamu on emerging as the National Chairman of our great party.
“We salute President Muhammadu Buhari for the fatherly role he played to ensure a hitch-free National Convention.
“Senator George Akume therefore calls on his teeming supporters to go to the national convention and participate peacefully.
“The journey to a greater Nigeria through the platform of our party, the APC, has just begun. It is our firm belief that the best has yet to come.
“We welcome and wish all the delegates a happy and successful National Convention.”
