The Director General of NARSDA, Dr Halilu Ahmad Shabba, said that collaboration on consistent capacity building between the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the National space Research and Development Agency (NARSDA) at this time was key to personnel productivity and the successful operations of NCoS.
Dr John Ayogu, who represented the Director General, stated this during the Opening Ceremony of a five-day Geographic Information System (GIS) training at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NARSDA) office in Abuja.
He emphasized the importance of consistent capacity building and collaboration between the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and NARSDA.
He highlighted that such collaboration was crucial for enhancing personnel productivity and ensuring the successful operations of the NCoS.
He further elaborated on the role of NARSDA as an agency established to support other agencies in various aspects, including pilot projects, aimed at national development.
He emphasized that the collaboration between NCoS and NARSDA could extend beyond training activities.
He suggested that it could also lead to the acquisition of space capabilities by the Nigerian Correctional Service, which would contribute to the overall enhancement of the quality of life.
He said the collaboration between NCoS and NARSDA was expected to foster the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
By leveraging NARSDA’s resources and capabilities in space research and development, the Nigerian Correctional Service can improve its operations and personnel effectiveness.
This collaboration may involve joint research initiatives, data sharing, and the utilization of geographic information systems to enhance the NCoS’s ability to manage and monitor correctional facilities, offender rehabilitation programs, and overall security measures.
Through this partnership, NCoS can benefit from NARSDA’s experience in utilizing space technology for surveillance, mapping, and monitoring purposes.
This could potentially lead to more advanced systems for tracking offenders, analyzing patterns of criminal activities, and improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of correctional services in Nigeria.
The integration of space capabilities within the NCoS framework can provide valuable insights and data-driven decision-making tools to enhance public safety and contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation.
The collaboration between NCoS and NARSDA is not limited to capacity building through training alone.
It encompasses the exploration of space capabilities and the application of geographic information systems to improve the quality of life and enhance the operations of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
By leveraging the expertise and resources of NARSDA, the NCoS can achieve significant advancements in correctional services and contribute to the overall development and security of Nigeria.
