The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) and the Swiss Government have agreed to strengthen partnership in the fight against trafficking In persons.
This was wrapped up when the Swiss Ambassador, Mr Steiner Georg paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Agency, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
Georg thanked the DG for receiving him and his team and reiterated the need for stronger partnerships.
He said Trafficking in Persons (TIP) was a fight that needed strong partnerships and his Government would give NAPTIP all the needed support just as they had done with the just-concluded workshop on the National Plan of Action Against TIP 2021-2025, and the blue bus project which will be handed over to the Agency soon.
He prayed for better collaborations between NAPTIP and his Government and assured the DG of his Government’s commitment in this cause.
The Director General thanked the Ambassador for the visit and emphasized the need for a stronger partnership.
She said the opportunity to make an impact had presented itself and the Agency would collaborate to win the fight.
She appreciated the Swiss Government for the National Plan of Action as, according to her, it was key, and would give Nigerians a clear path in the fight against TIP.
The Director General stated further that every part of Nigeria had its own type of trafficking issues and “we must ensure we spread into all the States to curb these several types of trafficking.”
She shared her vision with the Swiss Ambassador and his team which included partnering all State Governments, Sensitization which will spread into all localities, domestication of the VAPP act in all States.
She advocated engagements by other Governments and the private sector to ensure victims are trained and empowered so they can stand on their feet.
The DG also solicited for capacity development of NAPTIP staff members, operational vehicles, forensic gadgets, and a foreign exchange programme that would enable NAPTIP staff members learn from other foreign Law Enforcement Agencies on how they tackle the issues of TIP.
The meeting also had in attendance Migration Expert from the Swiss Embassy Mr Manuel Mulehbach, NAPTIP Directors, Mr Tahir Hassan, and Mr Olubiyi Olusayo and the SA to the DG Mrs Ladidi Kolo.
