In anticipation of the upcoming 2024-Armed Forces Remembrance Day slated for 15 January 2024, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has granted approval for the initiation of the inaugural Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Veterans Outreach Programme.
The program, scheduled to transpire from 12 to 13 January 2024, will be conducted in the three oldest NAF Commands situated in Makurdi, Kaduna, and Lagos.
The primary objective of the Veterans Outreach Programme is to extend support and appreciation to retired NAF officers, airmen, and airwomen.
The event will encompass medical outreaches, health support talks/lectures, and interactive sessions with the respective Air Officer Commanding (AOCs) and Base Commanders.
Additionally, the outreach endeavors to bolster the morale of the veterans, fostering a sense of belonging, and serve as a platform to address and resolve issues specific to retirees’ welfare.
Beyond these immediate goals, the program aspires to uplift the spirits of the veterans, assuring them that their dedicated services and sacrifices for the nation are profoundly acknowledged and indelible.
It is envisioned that the initiative will convey a positive message of care not only to ⁰the retired personnel but also to those currently in active service, underscoring the value that the NAF places on their continuous efforts to safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians.
The programme is poised to inspire the serving personnel to persist in their commitment to the nation.
Edward Gabkwet, Air Vice Marshal and Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, expressed the significance of the Veterans Outreach Programme in reinforcing the NAF’s commitment to the well-being of its retired and active personnel.
The initiative aligns with the broader objective of promoting camaraderie among the air force community while addressing the unique challenges faced by veterans.
The Nigerian Air Force anticipates that this outreach will not only contribute to the welfare of its veterans but also serve as a commendable prelude to the solemn commemoration of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day on 15 January.
