The Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch has successfully conducted air strikes against terrorist locations in Giwa and Igabi Local Government Areas (LGA) of Kaduna State, despite adverse weather conditions affecting operations.
According to Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet on July 12, 2024, a targeted strike on Alhaji Layi’s enclave in Kufan Shantu Village resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of their thatched huts.
Additionally, their logistics hidden under dense foliage were also neutralized.

He said the following day, July 13, air strikes over Malum Forest in Igabi LGA yielded positive results, as a precision strike was authorized against a compound where terrorists were observed.
Battle Damage Assessment footage confirmed the elimination of a significant number of terrorists.
Gabkwet said these operations were initiated based on credible Human Intelligence and thorough reconnaissance, identifying the locations as key areas linked to a recent ambush on troops on July 10, 2024.
The Nigerian Air Force, in collaboration with ground forces, is committed to maintaining operational dominance through regular patrols and targeted actions against terrorist safe havens, aiming to eradicate terrorism in the Northwest and North Central regions.
