The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Osun State chapter, has expressed worry over the spate of insecurity in the country.
The vouncil noted that only adequate resources will tackle challenges of insecurity, widespread poverty and hunger in the country.
Imam Tajudeen Adedokun, Osun State coordinator of NACOMYO stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday.
He called on government at the federal, state and local government levels as well as private sector to engage Nigerian youths to stem the spate of insecurity in the country.
Imam Adedokun observed that unemployment, which is prevalent among the nation’s youths, is one of the things fuelling insecurity in the country.
He therefore called on Nigerian leaders to channel more resources to address the threats.
The council expressed the need for leaders to be more proactive in addressing high level corruption in government and rising ethnic tension.
“As such, the council calls on governments, at all levels, and well-meaning individuals to get the youths engaged with gainful employment. The council also calls on youth to ‘think outside the box’ on how to be gainfully employed so as not to be willing tools or agents of destabilisation.
“The absence of these essentials in any country is a recipe for insecurity, strife, and bedlam,” he said.
He called on youth to eschew ethnicism, tribalism, and other divisive elements that are capable of worsening the security situation in the country.
Besides, he urged the presidency to show greater transparency, impartiality and neutrality in the conduct of national affairs.
