Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni was sworn in for a seventh term on May 13, 2026, extending his nearly four-decade rule following January’s disputed presidential election.
The inauguration at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala drew thousands of supporters.
According to Uganda’s Electoral Commission, Museveni won 71.65% of the vote, while opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, secured 24.72%. Kyagulanyi rejected the result, alleging electoral fraud and ballot manipulation.

The election was marked by reports of intimidation, arrests of opposition figures and an internet shutdown, raising concerns among observers about the credibility of the process.
