Police prosecutor, Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq, told the court that the accused person did attempt to rob one Bolanle Rainat of her cash being a POS attendant and used a
sledge hammer to inflict injury on her head.

Olayiwola further said that the injury inflicted on the victim caused an open injury on her head.

He noted that the offence committed was contrary to Section 403(1)(2)(b) and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun state 2002.

However, the accused person pleaded guilty to the two-count charges of attempted robbery and assault preferred against him by the police.

Speaking with our correspondent, the victim explained that she was selling soft drinks together with the POS.

According to her, “He parked his motorcycle in front of my shop and entered to buy a bottle of Coke and seek permission to sit down and drink the coke in the shop which I granted him.

“The next thing I will see is that he went outside to bring a sledgehammer and hit it on my head. When he saw people coming, he rushed out and ran away.

“I signified him to the people by showing the direction he ran to in a pull of blood before he was apprehended.”

Presiding Magistrate, Abayomi Ajala said, “Having seen the victim’s injury in the open court and the punishment of the offence committed by the accused, according to the sections, which is life imprisonment for the first section of 403 and three-year imprisonment for the second section of 355, I’m not convenient with this incident.”

He ordered the prosecutor to transfer the case file to DPP for legal advice and to remand the accused in Ilesa correctional centre.

He thereafter adjourned the matter till January 26, 2021, for mention.
