The mother of a 20-year-old journalist, Pelumi Onifade, who was allegedly killed by police in Lagos State, Mrs Bosede Onifade, has narrated how her son was killed on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
According to Mrs Onifade, Police were said to have shot Pelumi because of the way he ran on the fateful day.
The mother disclosed that Police took away the deceased’s Press Identity Card after they shot him.
The deceased mother told journalists recently that Pelumi was on duty and there was no chaos until police arrived in a Black Maria and started throwing bottles and shooting.
“He was a young man and had never experienced that kind of thing before, so he ran.
“The house he ran to had been locked so he ran back. That was how they grabbed him and shot him. They even carried his dead body away,” she narrated.
Mrs Onifade said that she looked for Pelumi for a week until she got the news that his dead body was found at a mortuary in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
“They had removed the press identity card on his neck. He was taken all the way from Abattoir area, Agege to Ikorodu.”
When asked if she identified the killer of her son, the mother said that she only identified the name of the officer that led the team as Akerele.
Mrs Onifade called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene and bring the perpetrators to book as she wants justice to be done.
