Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) under Sector 3 in Monguno, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have successfully intercepted a suspected terrorist courier carrying Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials.
Chief Military Information Officer, HQ MNJTF, N’Djamena, Chad Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba said the operation took place at the entrance to Gubio Local Government Area on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The suspect, 28-year-old Murktar Alhaji Chari, confessed to transporting the materials to Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area for a planned attack on MNJTF troops.
Recovered items included four empty 12kg cylinders, one empty 6kg cylinder, two carburetor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose.
Intelligence reports showed the materials were intended for a retaliatory strike by a terrorist group following recent MNJTF successes, which resulted in heavy losses for the group, including personnel and weapons.
This timely interception disrupted the planned attack and significantly weakened the group’s operational capacity.
The suspect is in custody and assisting authorities with further investigations.
Major General Ibrahim Ali, MNJTF Force Commander, commended the troops and CJTF for their vigilance and professionalism.
He reiterated the MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding the region.
