The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has intensified its operations in the Lake Chad region, reporting significant successes in recent engagements aimed at combating terrorism and enhancing regional security.
In a statement, Chief of Military Public Information of MNJTF Lieut. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi said from February 10th to 20th, all four sectors of the MNJTF recorded notable achievements, including the surrender of multiple terrorists and the interception of a major arms shipment destined for insurgent groups.
“These successes highlight the increased effectiveness of MNJTF troops in tackling terrorist activities and disrupting their networks.
“In Sector 1, MNJTF forces in Mora, Cameroon, successfully neutralized two Boko Haram terrorists during an engagement in Soueram, seizing 92 ammunition belts linked to the group.
“Additionally, repentant insurgents surrendered to troops in Sectors 2 and 3, resulting in the recovery of various arms and ammunition, including rifles and explosives.
Sector 2 troops in Bagasola, Chad, conducted high-impact offensive operations at Tchokou, a Lake Chad Island, inflicting casualties on Boko Haram fighters and recovering canoes and logistics items.
“Furthermore, separate operations led to the recovery of explosive shells, further crippling terrorist capabilities in the region.
“In a coordinated effort, the Chadian Air Force carried out a successful airstrike targeting Boko Haram strongholds along the southern rim of Lake Chad, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their equipment on waterways,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, in Sector 4, Diffa, Niger Republic, MNJTF troops intercepted an arms smuggling attempt near the Niger-Chad border, seizing a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, dealing a blow to the clandestine networks supporting insurgency.
Despite these achievements, the MNJTF mourns the loss of two soldiers, one from Nigeria and one from Chad, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, while three others sustained injuries.
The MNJTF reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in the Lake Chad basin and supporting economic growth and free movement within the region.
“These recent successes underscore the resolve and dedication of the MNJTF in addressing the challenges posed by terrorist activities, and the task force will continue its comprehensive approach, combining military action with collaborative efforts to support affected communities and ensure regional stability,” it said.
