Mass JAMB failure and the proposed WAEC/NECO Computer Based Examinations (CBE), By Martins Ilori

I wish to propose the following actions in response to the issues adumbrated in the title supra:

1.More computer teachers should be employed into the public secondary schools. The teachers should be sensitised, retrained and given more orientation in the use of computers for examination purposes.

2.The curriculum of computer studies should be widened and more practical to prepare the students for internal and external examinations.

3.SSS 2 and SSS 3 students *must* be exposed to internal Computer Based Tests (CBT) in some subjects before they are eventually presented for SSCE JAMB and other external examinations.

4.Our children should be exposed to practical computer studies right from the primary schools. The curriculum should shift from rote learning of computer types, parts and components. Let’s start to catch them young.

5.More computers should be supplied to our public schools

6.Expansive computer rooms/halls should be built, furnished and equipped with modern computer units in all our schools in preparation for external WAEC/NECO CBE.

7.Students should be presented for external WAEC/NECO CBE in their school environments and not in environments alien to them.

8.All our teachers in both private and public secondary schools must be computer literates. You can’t prepare students for a test method you don’t know anything about.

9.Until all the above suggestions are considered and implemented, the proposed WAEC/NECO CBE should be put on hold to avoid catastrophic results.
