Many feared abducted as Boko Haram invades Borno school

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters stormed Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba LGA early Friday, sparking fears of mass abductions.

The attack happened in Mussa village, a remote border community near Sambisa Forest. Sources say the insurgents arrived on motorcycles just 10-15 minutes after troops left the area.

Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, confirmed the invasion. He said many students fled into the bush, but it’s unclear how many were taken.

“It is also disheartening that the incident took place barely some few minutes after troops on patrol left the community; this signifies that the insurgents or the attackers were spying on the movement of troops before they struck,” Askira said.

A local, Solomon Mussa, posted on social media pleading for prayers, saying “school children were affected” in the attack.

Police have not commented yet. The Deputy Speaker promised to share more details as they come in.

Mussa sits in one of Borno’s most vulnerable areas, where Boko Haram has repeatedly targeted schools and communities near Sambisa Forest.
