The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 46- year-old man, Onyebuchi Albert, in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating up his wife and causing injury on her face.
The defendant, a trader, who resides at 11, Olunuga St., Orile Iganmu, Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of assault.
The Prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offence was committed on May 19, at the defendant’s residence.
The prosecutor said that an argument ensued between the defendant and his wife, Ngozi Eze, which led to a serious fight.
Ademigbuji said that the defendant beat up his wife, and she sustained a serious injury on her face.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravened section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. O Kushanu, granted the defendant bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Kushanu adjourned the case to Sept. 17 for mention.
