One Rasheed Wasiu, on Tuesday, appeared before a Lagos High Court, Tafa Balewa Square, charged with being in possession of firearms.
Wasiu, who has been in Kirikiri Medium Correction facility in Lagos since 2020, is standing trial before Justice Yetunde Adesanya.
The state prosecution counsel, Ms Tola Anyabisi, told the court that Wasiu was allegedly caught with a locally made pistol, AK47 rifle and four live cartridges.
Anyabisi said that the firearms found on the defendant reasonably indicated that he had the intent to commit armed robbery.
She said that the defendant and one other still at large committed the alleged offence between Oct. 20 and Oct. 21, 2020 at 2.00p.m. in Suru- Alaba, Ojo in Lagos.
The offence, the counsel said, contravened Section 298 (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The charge was read and interpreted in Yoruba to the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.
Justice Yetunde Adesanya, thereafter,  adjourned the case until June 24 for commencement of trial. (NAN)
