A 43-year-old man, Sunday Omede, was on Thursday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting his wife.
Omede, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a two-count charge of assault and unlawful abuse. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, the incident occurred on April 30 about 12:03 a.m. at No. 1 Alhaji Bello Street, Ajayi Kope area of Badagry.
He alleged that Omede physically attacked his wife, Janet Omede, causing her serious injuries.
The offences, Adeosun stated, are in violation of Sections 170 and 245 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in the same amount.
One of the sureties must be employed and present proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned to June 3 for further mention.
