A man who choked a woman to death claims she died during a sex session which went wrong, a court heard.
Sam Pybus is charged with murdering Sophie Moss, which he denies, though has admitted to the “unlawful killing” in court today.
The 31-year-old, of Middelton St George, Darlington, pleaded guilty to manslaughter during a hearing at Teesside Crown Court on Friday morning.
The defendant – who appeared wearing a grey suit and white shirt – denied the murder charge, reports Teesside Live.
Ms Moss, 33, was found unresponsive by police at Glaisdale Court, Darlington, on February 7.
She was taken to hospital but was sadly later pronounced dead.

Richard Wright QC, prosecuting, accepted the pleas entered by the defendant.
Sam Green QC, mitigating, said his client accepts he applied hand pressure to Ms Moss’ neck prior to her death, but claims she consented to it as part of sexual activity.
The barrister told the court: “The defendant has informed his legal team that he will plead guilty on the basis of – one: he accepts that he applied hand pressure to the neck of Sophie Moss.
“She consented to that hand pressure as part of the sexual activity that she and Sam Pybus were engaging in and she had done so previously.
“Two: he accepts that the pressure applied to her neck caused her death.
“Three: he had no intention of harming her or causing her injury.”
He asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared due to “matters relating to his personal life and background”.
Judge Paul Watson QC agreed and granted a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
Pybus will next appear in court on September 7 for sentencing.
He was remanded in custody until that date. (UK Mirror)
