A 57-year-old man, Ramon Animashaun, was arraigned on Thursday in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged N5.3 million fraud.

Animashaun, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 4, 2024, at the Mokola area of Ibadan.

Lawal said that the defendant obtained the money from the complainant, Mr Adisa Jimoh, on the pretext of selling a plot of land to him, but failed to do so.

He said the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

Lawal said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 14 for mention.
