The Police, on Friday, arraigned a 35-year-old man, Israel Adewumi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged N3.4 million fraud.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of fraud to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in July 2024 at Fajuyi Area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N3.4 million from the complainant, Mr Ogunyebi Wale, on the pretext of procuring a Poland visa for him.
Akinwale said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 329(3) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Kayode Opeyemi, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Aug. 8 for hearing.
