Man, 27, docked for alleged assault

A 27-year-old man, Peter Oko, on Thursday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing Mr Sodiq Yusuf.

Oko, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 12 at 7.3.p.m at Lasisi Okoya Street, opposite Badagry Grammar School, Lagos.

Ekpo said that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Mr Sodiq Yusuf, by stabbing him with an object on the back during argument, resulting in severe injury.

He said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to breach the peace by causing pandemonium.

Ekpo said the defendant was arrested by passersby who handed him over to police.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 173 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum N100,000 with one surety in the like sum.

Layeni said that the surety must be a community leader, with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 22 for mention.
