A sea of blue and white swept through Ogun Central on Wednesday as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, officially flagged off its campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, drawing tens of thousands of supporters across the senatorial district.
The turnout in the three federal constituencies — Ifo/Ewekoro, Abeokuta North, and Abeokuta South — brought commercial activities to a halt as residents lined streets, balconies and junctions to welcome the party’s candidates.
—“Time To Bid Farewell To Non-Performance” — Adebutu—
The campaign train kicked off in Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency at Agbado Station, led by PDP’s Ogun governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu; his running mate, Hajiya Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; and senatorial candidate, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo.
Residents waved flags and chanted solidarity songs as the convoy moved through the area.
Speaking at the rally, Adebutu urged voters to elect “tested and trusted” leaders. He described Senator Obasanjo as a lawmaker whose track record “has not been matched” during her time in the Senate.
“Ogun Central must bid farewell to non-performance and vote for liberation,” Adebutu said.
He called on residents to come out en masse on January 16, 2027, to vote PDP, “stand by your votes, and resist intimidation.”
—Massive Turnout In Abeokuta North, South–
In Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, where Arch. Dele Olaleye is the House of Representatives candidate, supporters had gathered at the NTA Junction, Totoro from as early as 10am.
The senatorial and governorship candidates assured the crowd of purposeful representation at both the senate and federal constituency levels.
The final stop was Abeokuta South, where Hon. Toyin Amuzu is the PDP House of Reps candidate. Thousands of supporters followed the convoy to *Ake Pavilion* for the Ogun Central grand rally.
—Obasanjo: “People Still Point To The Work I Did”—
Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, seeking a return to the Senate, said the reception across the district showed voters remember her impact.
“I am glad that everywhere I went, people, on their own, pointed at the work I did when I represented the district and how many people were liberated from poverty,” she said.
She promised to “do even more” to ensure constituents benefit from the dividends of democracy if elected.
Voters Pledge Support
Several residents and party loyalists who spoke at the rally pledged unflinching support to PDP candidates.
“We will vote and stand by our votes for PDP,” many chanted.
The flag-off signals the start of intense politicking in Ogun Central ahead of the 2027 general elections, with PDP projecting to reclaim key seats in the state.
PDP is expected to take the campaign to Ogun East and Ogun West senatorial districts in the coming weeks.
